Forestland Ownership

Individuals and families own more forestland in the South than in any other region of the United States.

These forests are considered the backbone of the forest industry.

Cooperative Forestry

Cooperative Forestry programs help people help themselves.

Through the Urban & Community Forestry Programs, people learn about the power of growing trees in their back yard, whereby cities and communities become more livable.

Through the Forest Land Enhancement program, five million private forestland owners, learn to develop and implement forest management plans, ensuring healthy forests, clean air, and clean water for the fastest growing population in the nation.

Private landowners are offered incentives, through the Forest Legacy program, to preserve their lands long- term, reducing the chances that millions of acres will be lost to future generations.

State forestry agencies work in partnership with the USDA Forest Service and other partners, providing services to American Indian tribes, local communities, organizations, groups and citizens of urban and rural communities.
