Forest Service Partnerships
The South has some of the most dynamic, diverse, complex, and productive forestlands in the nation. Eighty nine (89%) percent of the South's 212 million acres of forestland is privately owned. These forests provide a significant measure of the Nation's demand for goods and services such as clean water, fresh air, wildlife, recreation, wood fiber, and jobs.
Through the USDA Forest Service Cooperative Forestry, Fire & Aviation Management, and Forest Health Protection, non-regulatory state and private forestry programs, and in partnership with the USDA Forest Service, local leaders, communities, universities, and non-profit organizations, critical forest issues are addressed.
Through these incentive-based programs, landowners receive advice and financial assistance on how to manage, protect, and sustain their private forestlands.
